Training goes faster when you write it down. This free dog training log printable fits a full week on one US Letter page, with big write-in boxes you can fill in at the field or on the kitchen counter.
What is inside the dog training log
- Header boxes for your dog, the week and this week’s goal
- Seven daily rows: date, session focus, reps, success rate and notes
- A drive and energy scale from 1 to 5 to circle each session
- A weekly summary: sessions, total reps, average success, average drive
- Wins, struggles, what changed and next week’s focus
How to use a dog training journal
After each session, write the skill or game you worked on, count your reps and how many your dog got right, and turn that into a success percentage. Circle a drive and energy number: 1 is flat, 3 is steady, 5 is over the top. Add one line about what worked and what to change.
Make it harder or easier
The log keeps the rule simple. Getting it right almost every rep? Make it a little harder. Missing a lot? Make it easier. Seeing a week of numbers side by side makes that call obvious.
Weekly summary
At the end of the week, total your sessions and reps, average your success rate and drive, and write your wins and struggles. Then pick next week’s focus. Print a fresh page every week and keep them together to see progress over time.
Who the training log is for
Use it for a new puppy, an adult dog learning something new, or a sport or working dog on a structured plan. Bring the sheet to your trainer or class so you are both working from what actually happened in each session, not from memory. It also makes a simple puppy training tracker for the whole household: whoever trains writes it down.
Pairs well with our free Engagement Games cheat sheet: log each game as its own session.
